Center for Effective Government Report – The Charitable Deduction Should Be Preserved

As federal lawmakers consider tampering with the charitable deduction, the Center for Effective Government issued a report on April 24 examining proposals that would significantly reduce giving. One proposal by President Obama would cap itemized deductions at 28 percent. Rep. Paul Ryan’s proposal to lowers tax rates would “reduce the tax benefit of charitable giving even more than the proposed Obama limit on itemized giving,” the report says.
